AIMS was founded
in Milwaukee in 1931 as GE Apparatus and Repair. It provided repair and
reconditioning services for all GE electrical equipment during the Industrial
Revolution in Milwaukee. During the peak industrial boom, when Milwaukee
established itself as a heavily industrialized city, the shop operated
three shifts and peaked at over 100 employees. As electrical equipment
evolved and heavy industry changed processes and left Milwaukee, the business
began to spread it's coverage and eventually developed a regional customer
base that included the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa. In 1987, during the divestiture of many of the GE Apparatus facilities, Mark Strang, a highly regarded GE manager, decided it was time for an entrepreneurial adventure. uncharted water, establishing a Kalamazoo, Michigan operation, re-establishing
and substantially growing the power systems business unit, investing millions
of dollarsin facilities and equipment, attaining Siemens Authorized Service
status and establishing American Industrial Motor Service (AIMS) as the
